| Today I had my Kung Fu review. It went well. I recieved
many compliments on my duties as El Presidente' and for my enthusiasm
for class. The only negative is that I may have come off
cocky. We are asked to rate ourselves from 1-10 and I gave myself
an 8. Apparently that is the highest self rating that the Sifu's
have seen in a while. For my last two reviews I gave myself a 6
and a 6.5, but lately my Kung Fu has felt much, much better than it
usually does. Techniques seem to flow better, I am less tense,
and I have been to class consistantly (when physically possible).
That being said, my Kung Fu is definately NOT an 8 in comparison to
others at my level; it's probably more like a 6.5 or 7. But, for
me, my Kung Fu has never been better: thus the ranking of 8.
I saw Megean (sp) for the fist time in a while. I recieved some
good corrections from her and Little Monk on my Chi Shing
two-man. While I feel I still have a lot of work to do before it
is anywhere near being "good", I know what I need to work on to improve
my form. I also began Lo Han tonight. The first movement is
strait out of a two-man drill we do in class. More correctly, the
two man drill is derived from the fist movement in Lo Han. It
seems that the more forms I learn, the more I find that our two-man
drills are snipets of different forms with modifications for fighting
applications.
Well, me be off to bed. I have much to do tomorrow and I need to
go to the rec. I'm going to try running 1.5 miles at 6.5-7 mph,
then drop down to 6 for the next 0.5, walk for a bit, then crank it up
to 6 again to get me to 2.5 miles. Each mile burns about 125
calories, so the more I run, even if it is at a slower pace, the more
flab I should lose. Unfortunately, there is a very high chance
that my body is simply going to break down my muscle instead of my fat
if I burn a lot of calories. At any rate, I am going to keep
trying what I am doing now, and if it's not working in two weeks (which
it should) then I will have to modify my training regiment.
That's all for now folks.

| So, the past week I have run 5 of 7 days and have been working abs and
doing dips for my chest and triceps. The good news is that so far
I have lost a wopping 4 lbs! Hopefully I can burn off even more
fat this week and maybe get some more definition in my abbs. I
have noticed the size of my triceps have increased in size, not
substantially, but enough for me to notice a difference.
The only problem is that my upper body is definately more tense than it
should be. Oh well, I just have to do more rolling backfists
*shrugs*. Speaking of backfists, I shouldbe learning Lo Han
starting this Tuesday or Thursday. Yesterday, Little Monk gave me
some huge tips on my Chi Shing two-man and he said that my Chi Shing
Staff two-man looked pretty good (except for the part where I strike
over head, draw back and clear my leg, then strike at the foot.
It's an issue I have been struggling with all along, and it didn't help
that I was exhosted from working out earlier in the day. I've
been trying to go much more vegitarian and as a result I have less
energy. I'm just going to have to eat some more carbs before I
work out I guess. Like everything else, my body will adjust with
time and dilligence.

| Todays Fun Fact!
HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players will have 128 bit encryption on all content
leaving the media player. Each media player model will have a
model encryption key and each title (ie - movie) will also have a title
encryption key. Based on these two keys, as well as a numer of
other factors, all content will be encrypted before leaving the media
player and must be decrypted by the display device (ie - television) in
real time.
Now, any of you techies who are reading this may be
saying to yourselves, "Damn! It would be really difficult to
decrypt a 128 bit singnal in real time!" If you are, you get a
gold start *sticks gold star on computer monitor*. In fact, it is
so intensive that the media player AND display device must contain
integrated circuts to decode the HDCP (High Definition Copy
Protection). Did you see a "HDCP Compliant" sticker on your TV
when you baught it? Hell no! In reality, no HDTV or monitor
currently out on the market is HDCP compliant. Capable?
Sure many of them are, but just because they should physically be able
to play the video doesn't mean that the movie studios will let
them.
So you know that $600-$700 PS3 you want to get with
it's FANTASTIC next gen media format? Well, be prepared to shell
out an additional $400+ for a high definition HDCP Compatable
television or else those Blu-Ray movies/games will play at a resolution
no better than current DVD or simply not display at all.
One last twist of the knife:
You know how I mentioned that there is a model encryption key that is
necessary to decrypt the HD signal? Well, guess what? The
movie studios can void your model key if they so choose. Lets
say, for some reason, it was easier to rip movies using a certain
Panasonic Blu-Ray player and you just happen to have bought that model
for $400. Instead of going to Panasonic and telling them to fix
the "problem" they can simply embed an instruction on all new Blu-Ray
disks that would void your model key as soon as you put it in your
media player and press play. "But, wouldn't that mean I wouldn't
be able to play my overly priced Blu-Ray disks on my overly priced
Blu-Ray player?" Yup, you're screwed!
BTW - the reason that Blu-Ray and HD-DVD format releases have been
pushed back is because the governing body that dictates what HDCP
compliance is, hasn't reached an agreement on the amount/types of
protection that will be placed on the players and display
devices. That won't happen for at least another month. Once
it does, hardware companies will finally be able to produce
equipment that can play Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. So until then, keep
dreaming and keep saving for your sweet new PS3, because it will cost
you at least a grand for the equipment and that doesn't even include
the games!

| Here is a good article that talks about how Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are the
proverbial vice that every consumer's nuts are in (Gleefully
ignorant consumer sheep need not read): http://gear.ign.com/articles/691/691408p1.html

| So Joe swung by today after picking up his transcripts. We played
Stubbs the Zombie for a few hours, I ditched Tool and Die Design (I
don't learn anything in that class anyway), then we went out to Ruby
Tuesdays for dinner. Our friend Tim (not of the HotHot variety)
quit his ass job at Denny's so we may be able to game on the weekends
starting in the near future.
This weekend I got food poisoning. It was either bad chinese food
or some zinc suppliments my Ma gave me because I have been sick
lately. Either way I spent most of Saturday in bed sleeping or on
my knees vomiting. Being sick sucks. To top it off, I have
missed a week of Kung Fu because of this stupid flu and Sifu has been
trying to get a hold of me all weekend. Hopefully, a similar
situation will not arise after I get my cellphone, but who knows.
Hopefully, I can get the Kung Fu issues worked out tomorrow and get
back to concentrating on my studies. Then I have to go write up a
resume and look into getting an internship for over the summer.
So much to do, so little will to do anything but lay in bed :(
